FIFA Women's World Cup 2023™ - Grace Jale Mural

Introducing the Grace Jale Mural

We are proud to share that the Tūmanako 2.0 mural at FMG Stadium Waikato is complete. This is an incredible kaupapa which involves the creation of six, large-scale murals across the motu in honour of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ by internationally renowned artist Mr G (Graham Hoete) and his wife, Melissa Hoete. Special thanks also to Rhiannon Taiapa-Kelly from the Ōpotiki Tūmanako group for being an integral part of this mural.

The mural depicts talented New Zealand Football Fern, Grace Jale, a Ngaati Raukawa descendent and proud wahine toa. Mr G shares “Our aim for painting these murals is to celebrate our wāhine Māori, indigenous players and to show all our players that the people of Aotearoa are right behind them!”

The project has been made possible thanks to funding from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment - Puawānanga Leverage and Legacy programme to create a lasting legacy for Aotearoa New Zealand and our communities as a co-host of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™. Next time you’re visiting the stadium visit gate 2 on Seddon Road to see the incredible mural for yourself.
